(KRON) -- Kaori Suzuki joined KRON4 anchor Stephanie Lin to discuss the performance and rich history of Japanese traditional dance. Awa-Odori is one of “Bon-Odori”, traditionally mourning death and celebrating the spirit of ancestors every summer.  Awa-Odori was developed into a “dancing festival” about 400 years ago in Tokushima (country of “Awa”). Today, it is one of the largest festivals in the world, and over 1.3 million tourists head to Tokushima to watch and dance together. Everyone is welcome to join in to Awa-Odori in their own way, regardless of age or gender. The greatest part of Awa-Odori is its main philosophy that "everybody is welcome to dance and have fun together."

Player disqualified at smaller event for smashing racket on ump’s chair loses at French Open

PARIS (AP) — Four days after getting disqualified from a smaller tournament for smashing his racket against the umpire’s chair during a match, Swedish tennis player Mikael Ymer was back in competition at the French Open on Sunday, bowing out in the first round.Ymer’s exit this time was far more conventional and far less dramatic: Quite simply, he was outplayed over three sets by No. 17 seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy and lost 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 on Court 7 at Roland Garros. Was it tough for the 56th-ranked Ymer to set aside what happened at the Lyon Open on Wednesday, when he was defaulted from the contest against French teenager Arthur Fils for an outburst late in the first set?“It’s a Grand Slam, so I have to stay present. Stay in the moment,” Ymer said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. “I cannot do anything about the past.”Ymer, who is 24 and owns a victory over current No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, was angered while playing Fils that the chair umpire would not check a l...

LONDON (AP) — Frank Lampard signed off as Chelsea manager with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday, leaving him without a home win during his underwhelming interim tenure. It took Kieran Trippier’s own-goal at Stamford Bridge to cancel out Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon’s early strike and spare Lampard the ignominy of a ninth defeat in his 11 games in charge.Newcastle had already sealed its objective and qualified for the Champions League, but the draw dropped the visitors to fourth place below Manchester United. Somewhat embarrassingly, Chelsea finished in 12th place. At the end of an awful season for Chelsea, there were at last flashes of a brighter future with Noni Madueke, Lewis Hall and substitute Carney Chukwuemeka — none of them older than 21 — the outstanding trio.Newcastle started the brighter, with Allan Saint-Maximin running at Trevoh Chalobah and slipping the ball through to Aleksander Isak, whose low shot was well blocked by the legs of Kep...

DENVER (KDVR) -- Local wine and liquor stores say their sales are down and they're feeling the impact of Proposition 125.The bill, which went into effect in early March, allowed for grocery stores to sell wine. And since, liquor stores have been feeling the effects, similar to when full-strength beer was first allowed in grocery stores in Colorado.Joy's Wine and Spirits owner Carolyn Joy believes voters only thought of convenience, but not how much it would impact the independently owned liquor and wine stores. The liquor store has been in her family since 1963 and she said they've never seen a hit like this.
