EVANSTON, Ill (AP) — Backup quarterback Brendan Sullivan had three total touchdowns in his first start of the season to lead Northwestern to a 23-20 win over Howard on Saturday. Cam Johnson and Bryce Kirtz each had a receiving touchdown as the Wildcats were able to stave off a late comeback push by the Bison on homecoming weekend.Sullivan filled in for starter Ben Bryant and was the difference maker for Northwestern (3-3). He finished with two passing touchdowns and one score on the ground. “I’m going to prepare every week like I’m the starter,” Sullivan said. “That’s the job of the backup: to prepare like you’re the starter and then nothing changes. Ben did a really great job of being a really good teammate on the sidelines. He was my No. 1 supporter so give credit to him.” Northwestern didn’t waste much time getting on the board. After moving the ball into the Bison’s territory on the opening drive, Sullivan faked a handoff and ran down the side...

He made the 6-footer to keep his distance over Carl Yuan, who had a 67.At stake for Griffin is a spot in the Masters, starting the year at Kapalua for The Sentry and perhaps being frontrunner for PGA Tour rookie of the year.Griffin was at 20-under 296 and has not made a bogey in his last 37 holes, although he tempted fate a few times at the Country Club of Jackson. He hit only seven fairways and missed four greens, the most of any round this week.“I got myself out of position on a holes, maybe made the wrong decision,” Griffin said with a smile. “But I feel like one of the strengths of my game is scrambling. DENVER (KDVR) -- Friday night, multiple crews worked for several hours to rescue a horse trapped in a bog.It wasn't just a horse, it was a draft horse, which is a large horse bred to be a strong working animal, and it was trapped in the soft, spongy ground of a peat-rich wetland. How will Thornton keep its road-crossing turkeys safe? Crews shared photos of the rescue, in which the horse appeared to be trapped in the bog up to its neck, the rest of its body below the surface of the ground.Front Range Fire Rescue responded at approximately 6:37 p.m. and asked for help from the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority's Large Animal Rescue Team.Neighbors and crews worked together for three and a half hours to bring the horse to safety.Front Range Fire Rescue did not specify how the horse ended up in the bog but noted that once the horse was out, a Colorado State University veterinarian immediately treated the horse.

US officials raise concerns over Israeli intelligence after Hamas attacks

(CNN) — American officials said Saturday they received no warning through intelligence that Hamas was preparing to attack Israel, leading to confusion among some at how Israel failed to detect signs of the rocket assault. The capability of Hamas to coordinate terrorist attacks on Israeli towns without detection has raised concerns about technological blind spots for US intelligence officials, a senior US intelligence official told CNN.US officials had been monitoring indications that tensions were escalating in recent months. But there was no tactical-level intelligence that alerted US officials that an attack of this size would happen on this day.The question for US and Israeli intelligence officials now is whether there were indicators that were missed – or whether Israel and the US failed to collect any information that would have helped predict the assault.Israeli and US officials will compile reports “in the coming days to see whether there were things missed or if the...

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde pushed the same buttons in ALDS Game 1 he has all season. They didn’t work out. | ANALYSIS

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 12:04:26 GMT

Brandon Hyde’s five seasons leading the Orioles have hinted how he might handle a playoff game. His postseason managerial debut in many ways aligned with what would be expected.Even during Baltimore’s rebuild, Hyde showed a devotion to matchups, seeking any platoon advantage available. Often in those early years, the right decisions backfired; the Orioles lacked the talent for even the most logical choices — say, bringing in a left-handed reliever to face a pocket of left-handed hitters — to be executed correctly. That’s certainly not the case with the 2023 Orioles, who won 101 regular-season games to claim the American League East title. But they fell to the Texas Rangers, 3-2, in Game 1 of the AL Division Series partly because the decisions he made, logical as they were, did not pan out.Twice, he brought in a left-handed pinch hitter to face a right-handed reliever with at least one runner on base; both were retired. He started a string of matchup...

Orioles reliever DL Hall, who spent his summer away from competition, thrives in it in ALDS Game 1 loss to Rangers

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 12:04:26 GMT

As the Orioles fought for an American League East title and the Triple-A Norfolk Tides similarly vied for a league crown, top prospect DL Hall was with neither ballclub. The left-hander, who debuted for Baltimore in 2022, instead spent six of his summer weeks in Florida at the team’s spring training facility to focus on strength training and rebuilding his velocity. He returned to Triple-A in late July, was called up to the Orioles in August and, on Saturday, turned in a strong relief performance in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. Despite Baltimore’s 3-2 loss to the Texas Rangers, Hall provided stability out of the bullpen, striking out three and not allowing a hit in 1 2/3 innings.“The ultimate goal was to get up here and be able to help these guys,” the 25-year-old Hall told The Baltimore Sun after the game. “It was a long road, obviously wish I could’ve been up here sooner, but it’s the end of the year and we got here...
