The Great Grift: How billions in U.S. COVID-19 relief aid was stolen or wasted

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:47:25 GMT

By RICHARD LARDNER, JENNIFER McDERMOTT and AARON KESSLER | Associated PressWASHINGTON  — Much of the theft was brazen, even simple.Fraudsters used the Social Security numbers of dead people and federal prisoners to get unemployment checks.
