Woman hit by RTD commuter rail in Thornton

DENVER (KDVR) -- One woman was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries Friday after being struck by a commuter rail train.According to the Thornton Police Department, the crash happened near East 97th Avenue and Welby Road. RTD told FOX31 that a "northbound N Line train made contact with a trespasser at approximately 1:15 p.m. today," and said the investigation will be a collaboration between RTD Safety and Environmental Compliance staff and the Thornton Police Department.According to the RTD service alert webpage, shuttle buses are replacing the N Line between Eastlake (124th Station) and Commerce City (72nd Station) because of police activity. DENVER (KDVR) — On Friday, 47 new Denver police officers were sworn in while surrounded by family and friends for a historic ceremony. Each of the newly sworn-in officers completed 29 weeks of rigorous training. This class of recruits was unique because it included 14 female officers, the highest number in a graduating class in the department’s history. This school resource officer treats the kids as her own One newly sworn officer, Rigo Basurto, said he chose the badge because of the impact his school resource officer had on him in high school."I was a troubled kid in the beginning, and I didn’t really see too much light in the world. Surveillance video captures smash-and-grab in Maverick Square in East Boston

A shocking smash was recently caught on camera in East Boston, with surveillance video showing people using what appeared to be a hammer to break display cases at a local business. The break-in happened around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. Store owner Juan Posada spoke to 7NEWS on Friday, reacting to the incident and describing the damage left behind. “They just went in with a sledgehammer,” he said. Posada has owned Aries Communications in Maverick Square for decades. In video of the robbery this week, someone can be seen first hitting the store’s door. A short time later, the person is seen kicking the door, eventually breaking it. Two people then enter the store where one is seen breaking a display case. Social Security checks are trickling into millions of homes across the country, with the first of two payments hitting mailboxes Friday, while higher disbursements loom in the new year.The next payment is scheduled for Dec. 29, as Americans recuperate from what is expected to be one of the more pricier holiday shopping seasons due to continued high inflation rates.Only those who qualify for Supplemental Security Income benefits will be receiving the pair of the payments, worth as much as $2,700 in total, according to the Social Security Administration, the federal agency that cuts the checks.SSA estimates roughly 67 million Americans will be scoring the payments.Married couples are getting two individual disbursements of $1,371, or $2,742 in total, while individuals are getting lower rates of $914 per and $1,828 in total.The payments are designated to help citizens who earn less than $1,913 from work each month and those who don’t have an income at all.
